Whole grains

Research & Evidence

Azelaic acid is a saturated nine-carbon dicarboxylic acid that occurs naturally in whole grains such as wheat, rye and barley and is also produced on human skin by yeasts of the genus Malassezia. In dermatology it is used topically for conditions such as acne and rosacea, where it has antibacterial and keratin-normalising effects and can help even out skin tone.

Toxicity & Safety

Topical azelaic acid is generally well tolerated and low in toxicity; the most common effects are mild local irritation, stinging or dryness at the site of application. It is a recognised cosmetic and dermatological ingredient.
