What Is BPC-157?
BPC-157 (“Body Protection Compound-157”) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide — a 15-amino-acid sequence derived from a protein found in gastric juice — marketed and used experimentally as a “healing” peptide. It is taken (typically by injection) in the hope of accelerating repair of the gut lining, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissue. It is a research chemical, not an approved medicine or dietary supplement, and the evidence base is overwhelmingly preclinical: the great majority of published work is animal data, much of it from a single research group.
Evidence
Most of the BPC-157 literature is preclinical. A 2021 review in Frontiers in Pharmacology summarises a large body of animal (mostly rodent) work reporting accelerated healing across gut, skin, muscle, tendon, and other injury models 1Reference 1ReviewStable Gastric Pentadecapeptide BPC 157 and Wound Healing — review of preclinical (animal) researchView study → — but these are animal findings and do not establish that the peptide works, or is safe, in humans. Human clinical evidence is minimal: only a handful of very small pilot studies exist, with no adequately powered randomised placebo-controlled trials, so the striking animal results have not been confirmed in people. Claims that BPC-157 reliably heals injuries or “fixes the gut” in humans are not supported by a verified human trial in this pass and should be regarded as unproven.
Dosage & Safety
There is no established human dose for BPC-157; regimens circulating online are not derived from controlled human trials, and this page makes no dosing recommendation. BPC-157 is not approved by the FDA or other major regulators as a drug or as a dietary supplement, and in the United States it has been flagged as an unapproved substance found in some products; it is also prohibited in sport. Human safety, long-term effects, drug interactions, and pregnancy/lactation safety are not established. This entry is informational only and is not an endorsement of use.
