Caftaric acid
A hydroxycinnamic acid ester (caffeic acid joined to tartaric acid) found in Echinacea, grapes and chicory; studied as an antioxidant caffeic-acid derivative.
Classification
Caftaric acid is one of the phenolic acids, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
