Dianethole
A dimer of anethole found in fennel and anise with documented estrogenic activity; along with photoanethole it is thought to account for much of these herbs’ mild estrogen-like effects.
Classification
Dianethole is one of the phenylpropanoids, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
