Epigallocatechin (EGC)
Epigallocatechin is a flavan-3-ol catechin found in green tea and one of the principal tea catechins.
Where Does It Come From? (1)
Epigallocatechin (EGC) is a naturally occurring flavonoid (flavan-3-ol catechin), found in Green tea. It is well tolerated orally (low toxicity).
Research & Evidence
Epigallocatechin (EGC) is a flavan-3-ol catechin and one of the principal catechins of tea, differing from the more famous EGCG in lacking the gallate ester. It contributes to the antioxidant catechin content of green tea and is generally studied as part of the overall tea catechin profile rather than on its own.
Toxicity & Safety
As a normal constituent of brewed tea, EGC is regarded as low risk at the levels obtained from drinking tea.
