Research & Evidence

Episesamin is a furofuran lignan closely related to sesamin, the well-known sesame lignan; it is also reported under the name asarinin from the bark of certain Zanthoxylum trees. Sesame lignans of this type are studied for effects on lipid metabolism and antioxidant activity, often as a sesamin/episesamin mixture, but evidence specific to the isolated compound is limited.

Toxicity & Safety

As a minor constituent of sesame, a common food, episesamin is generally regarded as low risk; its isolated safety profile has not been extensively characterised.
