Erucamide (N-erucyl amide)

Erucamide is the primary fatty acid amide of erucic acid, a naturally occurring lipid also used industrially as a slip agent.

Where Does It Come From? (1)

Erucamide (N-erucyl amide) is a naturally occurring fatty acid amide, found in Plant oils and various organisms. It is well tolerated orally (low toxicity).

Research & Evidence

Erucamide is the primary amide of erucic acid, a long-chain monounsaturated fatty acid. It occurs naturally as a lipid in various organisms and has been studied for roles such as a possible endogenous signalling lipid (for example in connection with sleep and angiogenesis), though such findings are preliminary. It is also widely manufactured for industrial use as a slip and anti-block additive in plastics.

Toxicity & Safety

Erucamide as a fatty acid amide is regarded as low in acute toxicity; its biological safety profile in humans has not been extensively characterised.
