Gallocatechin (GC)
A flavan-3-ol (catechin-type flavonoid) found in tea and many other plants, closely related to the green-tea catechins.
Where Does It Come From? (2)
Gallocatechin (GC) is a naturally occurring flavonoid (flavan-3-ol), found in Green tea and Various fruits and legumes. It is well tolerated orally (low toxicity).
Research & Evidence
Gallocatechin is a flavan-3-ol, one of the catechin-type flavonoids that occur widely in plants and are particularly associated with tea. It is structurally related to epigallocatechin and the other green-tea polyphenols, differing in stereochemistry and hydroxylation pattern. Like other dietary flavan-3-ols, it has antioxidant properties in laboratory settings and is studied as part of the broader polyphenol content of tea and plant foods.
Toxicity & Safety
As a flavonoid present in commonly consumed beverages and foods, gallocatechin is considered well tolerated at dietary levels. Isolated high-dose safety data are limited.
