Ibogamine
Ibogamine is a minor iboga-type indole alkaloid found in the iboga shrub and related plants.
Classification
Ibogamine is an iboga (monoterpenoid indole) alkaloid, part of the alkaloids class. Nitrogen-containing, often bitter and physiologically potent compounds — the group behind many of the strongest plant medicines and poisons.
Where Does It Come From? (1)
Ibogamine is a naturally occurring iboga (monoterpenoid indole) alkaloid, found in Iboga. It is flagged as moderately toxic.
Research & Evidence
Ibogamine is a minor iboga alkaloid, structurally the parent skeleton of the iboga series lacking the methoxy substituent of ibogaine. It is found in Tabernanthe iboga and some related apocynaceous plants and is of interest mainly to chemists studying the iboga alkaloids and their pharmacology. Its individual effects in humans are not well established.
Toxicity & Safety
Ibogamine has not been well characterised for safety in isolation and should be treated with caution by analogy with other iboga alkaloids.
