N-Feruloylserotonin

N-Feruloylserotonin (moschamine) is a serotonin–ferulic acid conjugate found in safflower and other seeds.

Where Does It Come From?

N-Feruloylserotonin is a naturally occurring serotonin derivative (hydroxycinnamic acid amide). It is well tolerated orally (low toxicity).

N-Feruloylserotonin, also called moschamine, is a conjugate of serotonin and ferulic acid belonging to the serotonin-derived phenolamides. It is found in the seeds of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) and some other plants, and has been studied chiefly in vitro for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. It is not psychoactive in the way the tryptamine name might suggest.
