Nornicotine
Nornicotine is a minor tobacco alkaloid and the demethylated analogue and metabolite of nicotine.
Classification
Nornicotine is a pyridine–pyrrolidine alkaloid, part of the alkaloids class. Nitrogen-containing, often bitter and physiologically potent compounds — the group behind many of the strongest plant medicines and poisons.
Where Does It Come From? (1)
Nornicotine is a naturally occurring pyridine–pyrrolidine alkaloid, found in Tobacco. It is flagged as toxic.
Tobacco
Nornicotine is a minor alkaloid of tobacco and also a metabolite of nicotine, from which it differs by lacking the N-methyl group. It is pharmacologically active at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, though generally weaker than nicotine, and like other tobacco alkaloids should be treated as toxic.
