Oripavine

Oripavine is a minor opium poppy alkaloid and a chemical precursor used in the synthesis of stronger opioids.

Where Does It Come From? (1)

Oripavine is a naturally occurring morphinan opium alkaloid, found in Opium poppy. It is flagged as toxic.

Opium poppy

Oripavine is a minor alkaloid of the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) and the O-demethylated relative of thebaine. It has opioid activity itself but is of greatest practical importance as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of semisynthetic opioids. Like other potent opioids it carries serious risks of respiratory depression and dependence, and it is a Schedule II controlled substance in the United States.
