Compound Monograph
Salvinorin B
Salvinorin B is a neoclerodane diterpene from Salvia divinorum and a largely inactive analog of salvinorin A.
Classification
Salvinorin B is a neoclerodane diterpene, part of the terpenoids class. The largest class of plant compounds, built from five-carbon isoprene units — the essential-oil aromatics, resins, bitter principles, saponins, and plant sterols.
Where Does It Come From? (2)
Salvinorin B is a naturally occurring neoclerodane diterpene, found in Diviner's sage and 1 other source. It is well tolerated orally (low toxicity).
Research & Evidence
Salvinorin B is a neoclerodane diterpene found in Salvia divinorum, structurally the deacetylated analog of salvinorin A. Unlike salvinorin A it is essentially inactive at the kappa-opioid receptor and is not considered psychoactive on its own, though it has served as a starting point for semi-synthetic derivatives in pharmacology research.
