What Is SNAP-8?
SNAP-8 is the trade name for acetyl octapeptide-3, a synthetic topical cosmetic peptide marketed as an “extended” version of Argireline and sold as a “Botox-like” anti-wrinkle skincare ingredient. It is a leave-on cosmetic, not an oral supplement or a drug. Like acetyl hexapeptide-8, it is an acetylated peptide fragment proposed to interfere with the SNARE complex and so reduce the neurotransmitter release that drives expression-line muscle contraction. That mechanism is plausible in principle, but the human efficacy evidence specific to SNAP-8 is limited and comes largely from the ingredient’s manufacturer rather than from independent trials.
Evidence
I did not find an independent, peer-reviewed, verifiable clinical trial (PMID/DOI) for topical SNAP-8 in this quick pass. The commonly quoted figures — for example “up to ~35% wrinkle reduction,” or head-to-head numbers showing SNAP-8 outperforming Argireline — trace back to manufacturer/marketing materials, not to a citable independent study, and should be treated as promotional claims rather than established results. The general mechanistic rationale (SNARE-complex interference reducing expression-line contraction) is shared with the better-studied acetyl hexapeptide-8 and is discussed under that ingredient; even there the topical evidence is limited and skin penetration is a recognised constraint, and the same caveats apply here. In short: SNAP-8’s anti-wrinkle claims are commonly made but I could not verify them against an independent trial in this pass.
Dosage & Safety
SNAP-8 is a topical cosmetic ingredient, not a dietary supplement or drug, so there is no oral dose; in products the peptide solution is typically used at low concentrations, but that is formulation practice rather than a clinically validated dose, and this is not a personal recommendation. As a leave-on cosmetic it is marketed as well tolerated on skin, but I did not verify a formal safety assessment in this pass, and interaction data, systemic safety and use in pregnancy are not assessed here. Toxicity has not been characterised in this pass. Given that the efficacy evidence is limited and largely manufacturer-sourced, claims for SNAP-8 should be read with caution.
