Amentoflavone
A biflavonoid (a dimer of two apigenin units) found in St. John’s Wort and many other plants; it binds benzodiazepine and several neurotransmitter receptors and notably inhibits the CYP3A4 and CYP2C9 drug-metabolising enzymes.
Classification
Amentoflavone is one of the flavonoids, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
