Arjunin
An ellagic-acid glycoside (3-O-methylellagic acid rhamnoside), a phenolic hydrolysable-tannin-type compound rather than a saponin, reported from Terminalia arjuna bark; the bark’s true triterpene saponins carry other names (arjunetin, the arjunosides).
Classification
Arjunin is one of the saponins, part of the terpenoids class. The largest class of plant compounds, built from five-carbon isoprene units — the essential-oil aromatics, resins, bitter principles, saponins, and plant sterols.
Where Does It Come From? (1)
