Chicoric acid

A caffeic-acid (hydroxycinnamic) derivative formed with tartaric acid; an antioxidant and immunostimulant constituent best known from echinacea and chicory, also present in dandelion.

Classification

Chicoric acid is one of the phenolic acids, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
