Desmethoxyyangonin

A kavalactone from kava and a potent reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase-B; unlike most kavalactones it does not act on GABA receptors, and it contributes to kava’s psychoactive, mood-lifting profile.

Classification

Desmethoxyyangonin is one of the phenylpropanoids, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
