Gingerdiols

Reduced diol derivatives of the pungent principles of ginger, related to the gingerols.

Where Does It Come From? (1)

Gingerdiols are naturally occurring phenolic diol (gingerol-related), found in Ginger. They are well tolerated orally (low toxicity).

Research & Evidence

Gingerdiols are diol derivatives found in ginger rhizome, structurally related to the gingerols and shogaols that give ginger its pungency. They arise from reduction of the corresponding gingerol ketones. They are minor members of ginger’s family of phenolic compounds and are studied mainly as part of the overall phytochemistry of the rhizome rather than in isolation.

Toxicity & Safety

As constituents of a common culinary spice, gingerdiols are considered well tolerated at dietary levels. Little isolated safety data exists for them specifically.
