Isoliquiritin

Isoliquiritin is a chalcone glycoside found in licorice root.

Classification

Isoliquiritin is a flavonoid (chalcone glycoside), part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.

Where Does It Come From? (1)

Isoliquiritin is a naturally occurring flavonoid (chalcone glycoside), found in Licorice. It is well tolerated orally (low toxicity).

Research & Evidence

Isoliquiritin is a chalcone glycoside (the glucoside of isoliquiritigenin) found in the roots of licorice (Glycyrrhiza species). Along with related licorice flavonoids it has been examined in laboratory studies for antioxidant and other bioactivities, but well-established human data specific to isoliquiritin are limited.

Toxicity & Safety

As a minor flavonoid constituent of a widely consumed food and medicinal plant, isoliquiritin is generally regarded as low in toxicity at dietary exposures. It has not been characterised in detail on its own.
