Juglone
A yellow-brown naphthoquinone pigment from walnut (Juglans) leaves, husks, and roots. It is allelopathic — inhibiting nearby plants — and has antimicrobial and antifungal activity; it is also a skin and tissue irritant.
Classification
Juglone is one of the quinones, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
