Lapachone

An ortho-naphthoquinone from the inner bark of pau d’arco (Tabebuia/Handroanthus), best known as beta-lapachone. It has been studied for antimicrobial and anticancer activity.

Classification

Lapachone is one of the quinones, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
