Lavandulol

Lavandulol is a monoterpene alcohol that contributes to the scent of lavender essential oil.

Where Does It Come From? (1)

Lavandulol is a naturally occurring monoterpene alcohol, found in Lavender. It is well tolerated orally (low toxicity).

Research & Evidence

Lavandulol is an acyclic monoterpene alcohol found in lavender (Lavandula) and its essential oil, where it and its ester lavandulyl acetate help define the characteristic lavender aroma. It is used as a fragrance component. Beyond its role as an odorant, little is firmly established about distinct pharmacological effects of lavandulol on its own.

Toxicity & Safety

As a minor fragrance constituent of a widely used essential oil, lavandulol is generally regarded as low in toxicity at the concentrations encountered in flavour and fragrance use. Its isolated toxicology has not been characterised in detail.
