Muscimol
A potent GABA-A receptor agonist and a principal psychoactive constituent of fly agaric, formed by decarboxylation of ibotenic acid as the mushroom dries; it produces sedative, hypnotic and dreamlike effects, while the delirium of fly-agaric poisoning is driven more by its companion ibotenic acid.
Classification
Muscimol is one of the amines & protoalkaloids, part of the alkaloids class. Nitrogen-containing, often bitter and physiologically potent compounds — the group behind many of the strongest plant medicines and poisons.
