An anthraquinone aldehyde of the madder family found in cleavers and noni roots, reported to have insect-antifeedant and antiproliferative activity in laboratory studies.
Classification
Nordamnacanthal is one of the anthraquinones, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
