Pfaffic acids
A group of hexacyclic nortriterpene acids characteristic of suma (Brazilian ginseng, Pfaffia), and the aglycones of its pfaffoside saponins. Studied for anti-tumour and adaptogenic activity.
Classification
Pfaffic acids are triterpenes, part of the terpenoids class. The largest class of plant compounds, built from five-carbon isoprene units — the essential-oil aromatics, resins, bitter principles, saponins, and plant sterols.
