Schizandrins

The dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans (schisandrin, schisandrin A/B/C and kin) that are the main actives of Schizandra berry, studied for hepatoprotective, antioxidant, and adaptogenic effects.

Classification

Schizandrins are lignans, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
