Securinine

An indolizidine alkaloid from Securinega and Phyllanthus species that acts as a GABA-receptor antagonist; it is a CNS stimulant and, in higher doses, a convulsant poison.

Classification

Securinine is one of the other alkaloids, part of the alkaloids class. Nitrogen-containing, often bitter and physiologically potent compounds — the group behind many of the strongest plant medicines and poisons.
