Steviol

The diterpene aglycone at the core of stevia’s sweet glycosides; gut bacteria release it during digestion, and it is the form ultimately absorbed and metabolised.

Classification

Steviol is one of the diterpenes, part of the terpenoids class. The largest class of plant compounds, built from five-carbon isoprene units — the essential-oil aromatics, resins, bitter principles, saponins, and plant sterols.

Where Does It Come From? (1)
