THC-P

THC-P is a cannabis cannabinoid with an extended seven-carbon side chain reported to bind CB1 receptors more strongly than THC.

Where Does It Come From? (1)

THC-P is a naturally occurring cannabinoid, found in Cannabis. It is flagged as moderately toxic.

Research & Evidence

THC-P (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is a cannabinoid first reported from cannabis that carries a longer seven-carbon (heptyl) side chain compared with THC’s five-carbon chain. Laboratory binding studies suggest it has notably higher affinity for the CB1 receptor than THC, which has prompted interest in its potency. It occurs only in trace amounts naturally and is more often encountered as a semi-synthetic product.

Toxicity & Safety

Because THC-P is newly described and little studied in humans, its safety profile is poorly characterised. Given its apparently high CB1 affinity, intoxicating effects may be pronounced, and caution is warranted. Its legal status is unsettled and varies by jurisdiction.
