Aloins
The bitter anthrone/anthraquinone C-glycoside laxative principles of aloe-type and cascara barks; stimulant laxatives that act by irritating the large intestine, with safety concerns limiting their use.
Classification
Aloins are anthraquinones, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
