Isoquinoline alkaloids

A large class of plant alkaloids built on an isoquinoline ring, including berberine, morphine, and tubocurarine. In abuta (Cissampelos) they predominate and underlie its muscle-relaxant, anti-inflammatory, and antimalarial activity; many members are pharmacologically potent.
