Phenylpropanoid glycosides
A class of water-soluble plant compounds (also called phenylethanoid glycosides) pairing a phenylpropanoid acid and a sugar, exemplified by verbascoside. Common in mint-family and Amazonian herbs and noted for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.
Classification
Phenylpropanoid glycosides are phenylpropanoids, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
Where Does It Come From? (3)
