Sesquiterpene ketones

A group of fifteen-carbon (sesquiterpene) compounds bearing a ketone group, contributing to the aroma and bioactivity of many essential oils. Several are studied for anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.

Classification

Sesquiterpene ketones are sesquiterpenes, part of the terpenoids class. The largest class of plant compounds, built from five-carbon isoprene units — the essential-oil aromatics, resins, bitter principles, saponins, and plant sterols.
