Xanthotoxin
A linear furanocoumarin (8-methoxypsoralen) from angelica and other umbellifers; strongly phototoxic, it sensitises skin to UV light and is used medically with UVA (PUVA) for psoriasis and vitiligo.
Classification
Xanthotoxin is one of the coumarins, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
