Physcion

An orange-yellow anthraquinone pigment found in rhubarb, yellow dock, and other Polygonaceae (and in lichens). It contributes mild laxative action and has shown anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity.

Classification

Physcion is one of the anthraquinones, part of the phenolics class. Antioxidant compounds built around one or more phenol rings — the flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, coumarins, and pigments behind much of a plant's protective chemistry.
