Suppresses and relieves coughing

Antitussives calm and suppress an unproductive, irritating cough. They suit dry, tickly coughs best — where there is mucus to clear, an expectorant is usually the better choice.

Antitussive is a sub-action of Expectorant. Where expectorant helps clear mucus from the lungs, antitussive is its narrower, more targeted form.
