Privacy Policy

What The Sunlight Experiment collects when you visit — anonymous analytics, the email address you give the newsletter, and nothing else — and how to opt out or ask for it to be deleted.

The Sunlight Experiment collects very little. You can read every page without an account or a sign-up. The site measures traffic with Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics, and it stores the email address you give if you join the newsletter. That is all.

There are no ads on this site, no accounts and no comments, and nothing you do here is sold or shared for marketing.

Analytics

Google Analytics 4 counts visits so we can see which pages people read, how they arrive and which device type they use. It sets small cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_…) to tell a returning visitor from a new one.

What we see is aggregate: page views, approximate country or region, browser and device type, and the site or search that sent you. We do not see your name or your email address, and we cannot connect a visit to you as a person.

Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. To stop Google Analytics on every site, use Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies in your browser, or using a content blocker, works too. The site reads the same either way.

Cloudflare Web Analytics gives a second count of page views. It sets no cookies and does not track you across visits or across sites.

The Newsletter

If you sign up, we store three things: your email address, the date you signed up, and the page you signed up from. They are kept in a private Airtable database and used only to send you the newsletter.

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. To have your address deleted entirely, email hello@thesunlightexperiment.com and it will be removed.

Hosting and Fonts

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver pages and to block abusive traffic, under its own privacy policy.

The site’s typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google’s servers.

Stored on Your Device

A few preferences are saved in your own browser, never sent to us: your light or dark theme choice, and the rows you star on the herbal tea and liquid herb dosage charts. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.

Monographs link out to research papers, databases and other sites. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
