Demulcents are rich in soothing mucilage that coats and protects irritated mucous membranes, calming a sore throat, an irritated gut or an inflamed urinary tract. They are moistening, cooling and protective.
Demulcent is a sub-action of Vulnerary. Where vulnerary promotes wound healing, demulcent is its narrower, more targeted form.
