5-Bromo-DMT is a brominated analogue of N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) that occurs naturally in certain marine sponges. It belongs to the indole/tryptamine class and is one of several halogenated tryptamines reported from sponge sources. Although it is structurally related to classical psychedelic tryptamines, its pharmacology in humans is not well characterized, and most of what is known comes from chemical isolation and preliminary laboratory studies rather than human research.
