Research & Evidence
Thunberginol A is an isocoumarin of Hydrangeae Dulcis Folium (Asian sweet-tea hydrangea leaf) and the lead compound of the classic Yoshikawa/Matsuda mast-cell pharmacology. Thunberginols A, B and F inhibit antigen- and calcium-ionophore-induced degranulation and the release of TNF-α and IL-4 in RBL-2H3 mast cells, and suppress the AP-1/ERK signalling that drives it. Reported from H. macrophylla / H. serrata leaf — not confirmed in the American H. arborescens.
Toxicity & Safety
No isolated-compound toxicity dataset exists. The species caveat above governs any read-across to American hydrangea preparations.
