Research & Evidence
Sideroxylin is one of the small C-methyl flavonoids of goldenseal, alongside 8-desmethyl-sideroxylin. Neither has antibacterial action of its own; both block bacterial efflux pumps — notably NorA — which lets the whole goldenseal extract out-perform pure berberine (PMIDs 21157683, 29091439). It is one of the clearest documented cases of a herbal synergist here.
Toxicity & Safety
No isolated-compound toxicity dataset was located. It occurs in goldenseal at small amounts, so ordinary exposure is via the whole herb.
