Research & Evidence
Surinamensin is a neolignan of Virola species. With grandisin and otobaphenol it belongs to the genus’s lignan fraction, credited with lipid-peroxidation inhibition, mitochondrial protection, reduced cytokine and nitric-oxide output, and antifungal and antiparasitic activity. The evidence is preclinical.
Toxicity & Safety
No isolated-compound toxicity dataset exists. As with the other Virola lignans, this fraction is separate from the psychoactive tryptamines of the resin.
