Research & Evidence
Thunberginol C is an isocoumarin of Asian hydrangea leaf. Oral H. macrophylla extract protected cortical neurons against corticosterone toxicity and reduced restraint-stress anxiety in mice, with thunberginol C identified as an active ingredient; a cholinesterase-inhibition signal is also reported. This is a small cluster of single studies, and — as with thunberginol A — it is Asian-leaf work, not H. arborescens.
Toxicity & Safety
No isolated-compound toxicity dataset exists. The species caveat above applies.
