Research & Evidence

Soyasaponin I is a triterpenoid saponin of the soyasapogenol series — the group that gives the soyasaponins their name and that occurs widely across the legume family. In Desmodium adscendens it co-occurs with dehydrosoyasaponin I, the molecule that carries the species’ BK-channel activity.

Its own isolate literature within this genus is thin. It is best read here as a companion constituent — useful for characterising the saponin fraction of the herb, rather than as a documented active in its own right. As with everything in Desmodium, the species matters: this belongs to D. adscendens, and does not read across to D. gangeticum.

Toxicity & Safety

No isolated-compound toxicity data were located. Saponins as a class are locally irritant and haemolytic in vitro at high concentration; that class-level caveat is all that can honestly be said here.
