Condition
Dyspepsia
Dyspepsia is persistent or recurrent discomfort in the upper abdomen, often described as indigestion.
Overview
Aetiology
Dyspepsia can arise from a range of causes, including excess gastric acid, impaired gastric motility, and heightened sensitivity of the stomach and upper gut. Common contributors are Helicobacter pylori infection, peptic ulcer disease, gastro-esophageal reflux, certain medications such as NSAIDs, and dietary or lifestyle factors. In many cases no structural cause is found, and the condition is termed functional dyspepsia.
